Choral voices of Carmarthen are to reunite in a glorious celebration of Evensong at St Peter’s Church.
Following the success of a similar event last autumn, singers across the Bro Caerfyrddin local ministry area (LMA) are planning two more opportunities to ‘Come & Sing’ in May and June. These joyful occasions allow singers to come together to raise their voices without the need for hours of practice and preparation.
The first ‘Come & Sing’ takes place on Sunday May 19 to celebrate Pentecost and the second on Sunday 30 June to celebrate the Feast of St Peter. All music will be provided and for each occasion there will be just one rehearsal at 3.30pm on the day. This will be followed by a short refreshment break and then the service at 5.15pm. Non-singers are invited to attend the 5.15pm services and enjoy the music.
May’s ‘Come & Sing’ will include a fauxbourdon setting of the Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis by local composer and organist Meirion Wynn Jones, and the anthem ‘Come, Holy Ghost’ by Thomas Attwood. Music for June is still being finalised but will also include settings of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis and the anthem ‘Tu es Petrus’ by Johan Christoph Lauch, a relatively little-known 17th century composer.
The LMA Choir leads the music at various special services at St Peter’s Church and other churches in the group throughout the year, and the idea behind the ‘Come & Sing’ events is to help the choir to make contact with other local singers who might be interested in singing at future services, including the traditional Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at Christmas.
If you are interested in taking part in the ‘Come & Sing’ events, or would like further information, please contact Glynis Morris at lmachoir1@gmail.com. To ensure there are plenty copies of the music, please get in touch by May 12 at the latest to register for May and by June 23 for the next event.
