Changes to transmission from 1 March 2024 (Duplicate)
From 1 March 2024 Easy Radio will no longer be available on FM or DAB in Wales. You can still listen online to our sister service Easy Radio South Coast on the Nation Player app.
We will be launching a new service on FM, DAB and online across Swansea and South West Wales: Swansea Bay Radio.
Kev Johns, Phil Hoyles and Steve ‘Wiggy’ Wiggins back on the airwaves in Swansea as 102.1 Swansea Bay Radio returns.
Popular local radio personalities Kev Johns, Phil Hoyles and Steve ‘Wiggy’ Wiggins are returning to the Swansea and South West Wales airwaves following the announcement that 102.1 Swansea Bay Radio is re-launching on March 1 2024.
The return of Swansea Bay Radio comes as long standing local station The Wave is set to disappear from the area’s radios later this year. Listening hours to The Wave have fallen by more than a third in the last year after it axed most of its local programming (Source: RAJAR W4 2022 vs W4 2023).
Wiggy served on The Wave, Swansea Sound and Real Radio for many years and will host daytimes on Swansea Bay Radio.
Another former Wave stalwart, Phil Hoyles, takes on the drivetime show with former Swansea Sound Breakfast host Kev Johns looking after Sunday mornings on the new station.
Wiggy said, “I’m delighted to be back on air across Swansea and South West Wales. I’ve always had a great connection with the people in the area and look forward to keeping everyone company through their working day.”
Kev Johns said, “I’m really looking forward to joining the team at Swansea Bay Radio and be part of truly local radio for our City and the surrounding area. It’s great to be back!”
The company behind the move is Nation Broadcasting who also run fast-growing local brands Nation Radio and Dragon Radio from their headquarters in Wales.
Nation’s Executive Chairman Jason Bryant said, “With The Wave disappearing, and with the city having already lost Swansea Sound, we’re stepping in to make sure local people can continue to hear local voices and local content made in Swansea. Playing the best hits of the 90s, 00s and now, Swansea Bay Radio will perfectly complement our larger Wales-wide stations, Nation Radio and Dragon Radio.”
Swansea Bay Radio launches on St David's Day, March 1st and will be available on 102.1 FM, DAB digital Radio and on the Nation Player website and mobile phone app.
