Taking place at East Park, Hull, on Friday 30 October, the event will bring together families, friends, colleagues and community groups for an afternoon of spooky fun, fundraising and fitness, all in support of local mental health services.
The event village will open from 2pm, with the 5K fun run starting at 4pm, and will feature a range of local traders, food vendors, family attractions and inflatable fun. Visitors can browse stalls show-casing handmade crafts, jewellery, home décor, baked goods, wellbeing products and delicious food from businesses across Hull and East Yorkshire.
Inspired by Hull & East Yorkshire Mind’s popular Mental Elf Fun Run, which has become a festive favourite in East Park, the Ghoul and Glow event encourages participants to dress up in their best Halloween costumes and take on the established 5K park run route. Whether walking, running, creeping or crawling across the finish line, every participant will help raise vital funds for local men-tal health support. Registration begins at 3.30 in the bandstand, we recommend booking online prior to the event to avoid queues.
As part of the event, runners will be given a glowing baton to carry along the route, symbolising hope, support and the message that help is available locally for anyone struggling with their mental health. Along the way, spooky characters will be on hand to entertain and encourage participants as they make their way around the course.
Research continues to show that physical activity, social connection and community involvement can play an important role in supporting positive mental health and wellbeing. Hull & East York-shire Mind hopes the event will provide a fun and welcoming opportunity for people of all ages to come together, connect with others and enjoy the Halloween festivities.
Lucy Joy Lines, Events Manager at Hull & East Yorkshire Mind, said:
“Everyone is invited to take part in our spooktacular Ghoul and Glow Fun Run. Whether you’re com-ing with family, friends, work colleagues or on your own, it’s a fantastic opportunity to have fun, get active and support local mental health services. No matter how you complete the route, by walking, running, crawling or creeping, your participation will help us continue providing vital support to peo-ple across Hull and East Yorkshire. We want to show that even as the nights get darker, there is al-ways hope, support and a community standing beside you.”
Hull & East Yorkshire Mind is also encouraging local makers, creatives, community groups and in-dependent businesses to get involved by booking a stall at the event.
The charity hopes Ghoul and Glow will become a Halloween highlight in the local calendar, bringing people together for an afternoon of laughter, community spirit and fundraising while raising aware-ness of the importance of good mental health.
