A Choral Eucharist to mark Ash Wednesday, the first day of the season of Lent, will be held at St Peter’s Church in Carmarthen on February 14th at 7pm.

The LMA Choir will help to lead the music which will include a plainsong psalm, the Kyrie, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei from the ‘Short Communion Service in the Phrygian Mode’ by Charles Wood and the anthem ‘Miserere mei, Deus’ by Johann Christoph Lauch (1634–1687).

Ash Wednesday is an ancient custom in the Christian Church whereby ashes are blessed and used to make a simple sign of the cross on the forehead of the worshippers present. The ash is a sign of mortality and a reminder that all shall die. The sign of the cross is a reminder of Jesus’ death which was followed by his resurrection. The act therefore serves as a reminder of repentance and God’s redemption.
Known as the imposition of Ashes, the Ash Wednesday service heralds the beginning of Lent, a time of reflection, penitence and fasting and of preparation for Easter.
Join us for Holy Communion at our Ash Wednesday Service at St Peter’s at 7pm on Wednesday February 14th.
