This six-hour course provides learners with an introduction to mental health, the factors that can influence it and practical strategies for supporting positive mental health and wellbeing.
The course is suitable for anyone who wants to develop their knowledge and awareness of mental health, including employees, volunteers, community groups and people who want to better understand how mental health can affect individuals and everyday life.
What the course covers:
Understanding mental health and wellbeing
How life events can affect mental health
Personal and environmental risk factors
Prevalence of mental health conditions
The mental health continuum
Common types of mental ill health
Stress, anxiety, depression and other conditions
Eustress and the difference between positive stress and distress
Diagnosis, accessing support and the role of the GP
Benefits and limitations of mental health diagnosis
Practical strategies and self-care approaches
Current research and approaches to supporting mental wellbeing
The course includes a multiple-choice examination.
Successful learners will achieve the Highfield Level 2 Award in Mental Health Awareness (RQF), subject to meeting the qualification and assessment requirements.
No previous mental health qualification is required.
