The Whitland Street Food Festival has been created, planned and organised by a company that was set up in 2023 called the Gemma Harries Memorial CIC (Community Interest Company). The company was set up after we lost a lovely young lady called Gemma Harries on the 16th of January 2023. Gem passed away suddenly due to a blood clot that formed from her dislocated knee at the age of 31. No one expected something like this to ever happen!
We decided to set up a company to hopefully raise awareness, help people who struggle with grief/depression and also to support the local community through fundraising and events because it keeps our minds busy and helps us deal with the trauma! We think helping others is the key and that’s exactly what Gemma did… she helped people, more than she could have ever imagined!
This is where the Whitland Street Food Festival comes into it. A little idea, that has snowballed (thanks to the support of local business’s) into something absolutely massive (for Whitland!) with Parc Dr Owen sitting in the centre of Whitland - a huge space that we would love to take advantage of!
We have loads of local businesses, artists, singers, choirs on our doorstep, it’s honestly the recipe for something truly amazing. What better way to celebrate these local industries and clubs than bringing the local community together.
It’s all for the local community and community spirit. It’s for enjoyment, not for profit.
It’s more than just a street food festival. This is supporting each other. Coming together and appreciating what we have right in front of us.
